Non-Immigrant Visa Category B (Teaching)

Foreigners who intend to take up employment as school teachers at the levels below university level in Thailand must submit the following required documents:

 Passport or travel document with validity of not less than 6 months

 Completed visa application form

 Recent passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm) of the applicant taken within the past 6 months.

 Letter of acceptance from employing institute or school in Thailand.

 Letter of approval from government agencies such as the Office of the Private

 Education Commission, the Office of the Basic Education Commission.

 Evidence of educational qualification such as diplomas or teaching certificates.

 School license or business registration, list of shareholders and school profile.

 Applicants resume.

 Police certificate verifying that applicant has no criminal record or equivalents or letter issued by authorised agencies in applicants country. (The requirement of the submission of such police certificate is optional. The applicant must submit it if consular officer requests he/she to do so. This requirement is effective as from May 2007)

 Work permit application process

Step 1 Apply for the appropriate temporary resident visa.

 For apply for a work permit, foreigners must have a work visa or Non-Immigrant Visa Category B (Teaching) visa to work in Thailand. This visa can be applied for at the Thai embassy or consulate abroad. In the case that foreigners are in Thailand on a tourist visa, so must to change their visa to a temporary resident visa. This type of visa is valid for 90 days and can be extended after receiving the work permit.

 The documents required for visa applications may vary depending on the requirements of each country's embassy or consulate. General documents required include:

- Temporary Resident Visa Application Form

- Completed employment certificate

- Original passport with at least 6 months validity

- Employment contract between employer and foreign person

- Other documents as requested by the embassy or consulate.

Step 2 Apply for a work permit

For the first time work permit application, you must download the document Bor Thor 25 and submit it to the Department of Employment. However, you must have a NON-B visa before applying for a work permi first.

 Documents from the employer :

- Work permit request form

- Completed employment certificate

- Employment contract between employer and foreign person

- Important documents from the hiring company

- Important documents from the hiring company

 Documents from foreigners :

- Passport valid for not less than 6 months.

- Visa Non-B (45-60 days before expiration)

- Transcript Diploma and Resume

- Medical certificate (not older than 1 month)

- 3 formal pictures

- Certificate and other related licenses

- A copy of the professional license in the case of a professional practice that is required by law to obtain a professional license.

Step 3 Work Permit Approval

When all documents are submitted, the applicant will receive a confirmation document indicating the date of collection of the work permit. On the collection date, the foreigner applying for a work permit must picked up by themselves with the original passport to be stamped by the Ministry of Labor officials.

NOTE: The Work permit are valid for no more than 1 year and must be renewed if the foreigner still needs to continue working in Thailand.
